Xochimilco boat tour reviews

Reviews

I read all eighty. GetYourGuide publishes ten traveller reviews in the page data for each of the eight tours on this site, which is what you see quoted here — first name, star rating and the words as written. Every one of the eighty is five stars. Two of these products average less than that, so the reviews you can read are not the reviews that made the score. That gap is the most useful thing on this page.

Ten reviews is a sample, not a verdict

The Frida Kahlo day trip carries 4.4 across 3,894 reviews — more reviews than the other seven tours here put together. The Coyoacán trip carries 4.0 across 357, the weakest number on this site. An average of 4.0 needs a substantial weight of ratings below five to hold it down, and not one of those ratings is in the ten I can quote. So I quote the ten, print the aggregate next to them, and leave the arithmetic where you can see it.

The opposite problem shows up at the other end. The women-led food tour rates a perfect 5.0 — off fifteen reviews. Ten of those fifteen are on its page, which means two thirds of everything ever written about that product is quoted in one place. It is not the same kind of claim as 4.9 across 631, and I say so on every page that mentions it.

The eight tours, cheapest first

Prices and ratings were read on 13 August 2026 from each product’s own data with the currency set to Mexican pesos. They move. Ratings and review counts move faster.

The benchmark: cheapest per head, best rated with a count worth trusting — and ten reviews that never once describe the canal.

Sold on the tasting. Not one of the ten reviews mentions tequila, pulque or a shot glass.

Frida Kahlo, Coyoacán and Xochimilco day trip

More reviews than the other seven combined, the second-lowest rating here, and ten five-star reviews that cannot explain it.

Xochimilco and colonial Coyoacán trip

The lowest rating on this site, and it stays. One reviewer timed the boat: about thirty minutes of a five-hour day.

Xochimilco boat party with unlimited drinks

The largest review count here that still holds a perfect score — and the only tour whose own exclusions say transport to the dock is not included.

Kayaking in hidden Xochimilco

Not a trajinera, no published meeting point, and one guide’s first name in nine of the ten reviews.

Food and trajinera ride with local women

Five stars off fifteen reviews. We can read ten of them, and two of the ten disagree about whether the boat is quiet.

What I check before I quote anything

Before you read any of them, do the division

The official trajinera tariff set by the Alcaldía Xochimilco is MX$750 pesos an hour for the whole boat, and a trajinera takes up to eighteen people. Every tour reviewed here is priced per person. Two hours of your own boat is MX$1,500 whether there is one of you or fourteen, so the cheapest tour here beats hiring at one or two people and loses from three up. If there are three or more of you and one of you can agree a price in Spanish at a dock gate, hire the boat and skip all eight of these pages. The full working is on what a trajinera costs.

Then pick a dock: which embarcadero to leave from. Or see all eight tours side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Are these Xochimilco tour reviews real?

They are the traveller reviews published in each tour’s own GetYourGuide page data, quoted verbatim with the reviewer’s first name and star rating. Ten per tour, eighty in total. I did not write any of them and I did not edit any of them.

Why is every quoted review five stars?

Because that is what the sample contains — all eighty reviews in the pool are five stars, which tells you how the platform selects them rather than what the average is. Two of these tours rate 4.4 and 4.0, so the ratings that pulled those averages down are not in the sample. Read the aggregate score and the review count next to the quotes, not the quotes alone.

Which Xochimilco tour has the most reviews?

The Frida Kahlo, Coyoacán and Xochimilco day trip, with 3,894 — more than the other seven combined. It also carries the second-lowest rating here at 4.4. Both are true at once and both belong on the page.

Do you make money if I book one of these?

Yes. If you book through a link here, GetYourGuide pays a commission and you pay the same price you would pay going direct. It does not change what the pages say, which is why they tell groups of three or more to hire a boat directly and book nothing at all. See the affiliate disclosure.
